Urban Systems Supports Habitat with Team Build Day
On Thursday, April 25th, employees from Urban Systems joined us at our 1375 Piercy Avenue project in Courtenay for a Team Build Day. The team of volunteers not only donated their time and energy but also $10,000, which will help us complete this project!
Rain or Shine: Dedication in Action
The volunteers were divided into two groups. One began early morning, and the other took on an afternoon shift. Both groups had a break for lunch, allowing for an overlap in their schedules to mingle and meet with staff and families. Both teams received the necessary safety equipment and rain gear. Initially, we had planned to stain the cedar fence their team had constructed during the previous year’s Team Build Day; however, the inclement weather had other plans. Since they could not stain the fence while it was raining, the Habitat team passed on different projects, which the volunteers took on without hesitation. Continuous tunes in the background helped make working on the base for the future pergola and transferring soil from one section to another in the rain more enjoyable.
Volunteers Working Alongside Habitat Homeowners
Sarah and her three teenage boys joined the team during the second shift, adding extra volunteer power. Their participation was warmly welcomed, enhancing the spirit of teamwork for the day.
Lunch Time with Volunteers
Thank you to Ryan and Son Catering and Ricky’s All Day Grill in Courtenay, who provided a well-needed delicious meal. The warm tomato soup, sandwiches, and pasta salad refuelled everyone on the build site! There were also several dessert treats provided by catering and Habitat homeowners who love to bake and leave treats as thank you.
