More Than a Lottery: How Split the Pot BC Is Powering Housing and Creating Local Winners

When charities work together, the impact grows fast. That is exactly the idea behind Split the Pot BC, a province-wide collaborative lottery that brings together 27 nonprofit partners to raise predictable, ongoing funding for their missions.
Instead of running a traditional 50/50, Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North joined forces with fellow island affiliates Habitat for Humanity Victoria and Habitat for Humanity Mid-Island to take part in this shared initiative. Since launching in July, the program has already proven its value. In 2025 alone, Split the Pot BC generated more than $230,000 for participating charities, with Vancouver Island Habitats raising over $8,500 to help build affordable housing locally.
And the wins are not just for charities. They are happening right here in our community.
So far, five local supporters have taken home prizes, including a January Grand Prize winner who received $32,146. Altogether, local winnings are now just shy of $42,000.
One of those winners, Grant Currie, said his reason for buying a ticket was simple:
“Because of the purpose of it. It’s not simply a draw, it’s to help Habitat for Humanity and I believe strongly in that organization and all the work they do.”
That is the heart of Split the Pot. It is not just about the chance to win. It is about thousands of people choosing, week after week, to support the causes that build stronger communities across British Columbia.
Tickets fund real work, real homes, and real local impact. Draws take place every Thursday, with a Grand Prize draw on the final Thursday of each month. Supporters can purchase tickets online and be part of something that is equal parts excitement and community good.
Because when we split the pot, everyone shares in the outcome.
