Q. How much does it cost to register?
A. Registration is free. Anyone with a valid email address can register and bid online. There are no buyer’s fees. The winning bidder will pay their final bid amount, plus applicable taxes. The minimum opening bid for the shed fundraiser auction is $100. Delivery is included in the winning bid within the stated delivery area.
Q. Why is PST charged on a second-hand shed sold to the general public?
A. Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North Society is a registered collector of PST and must collect applicable sales tax on the sale of goods.
Q. How do I pay if I win the shed?
A. Payment must be made by Visa, MasterCard, or American Express through the online auction checkout system.
Q. Is payment online secure?
A. Yes. Online payments are processed through an encrypted server and are secure.
Q. I keep placing bids and getting outbid right away. What is happening?
A. Habitat for Humanity’s auction platform uses a process called proxy bidding. This is a standard online auction system that automatically bids on your behalf up to the maximum amount you enter.
Q. How does proxy bidding work?
A. When you place a bid, you enter the maximum amount you are willing to pay for the shed. That amount is kept confidential. The system will automatically increase your bid only as much as needed, based on the set bid increments, to keep you in the lead. If another bidder has entered a higher maximum amount, you may be outbid immediately. If no one exceeds your maximum, you win the auction and may pay less than your maximum bid.
Q. What are the bid increments?
A. Bid increments may vary, but bidders must follow the increment structure set by the auction platform. Bidders may also choose to bid more than the minimum required increment.
Q. Can I retract my bid if I change my mind?
A. No. It is the bidder’s responsibility to review the listing and ask any questions before placing a bid. Once a bid has been placed, it cannot be retracted. The winning bidder is obligated to complete the purchase. Failure to honor a winning bid may result in cancellation of your Habitat for Humanity auction account.
Q. Can I return the shed if I win it?
A. No. As with all auctions, all sales are final and no returns or refunds will be issued.
Q. Is delivery included?
A. Yes. Delivery is included in the winning bid. Delivery is available to a driveway or another flat location that is easily accessible by truck and trailer. A straight unloading area of at least 70 feet is required. The shed will be left on blocks or cribbing. Delivery will take place within 7 days of purchase. The delivery area is from Bowser to Sayward.
Q. Can I arrange my own transport instead of using the included delivery?
A. Yes. Winners may choose to arrange and procure their own transportation if they prefer. Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North is not responsible for any damage that may occur during transport or delivery.
Q. What happens after I have paid?
A. Once payment has been processed, delivery will be arranged within 7 days of purchase, provided the delivery location is within the stated area and meets the access requirements. If the winner chooses to arrange their own transport, it is their responsibility to coordinate pickup and removal.
