Candida's Story

Candida (Candi) and her family have called the Comox Valley home for 33 years! Their family was sponsored by the Catholic Church, which helped them immigrate from El Salvador in the early 90's. Candi has two teenage daughters, Noelia and Kihanna. In their free time, they love walks around the Comox airpark, cozy movie nights, game nights, and puzzles that keep them bonded and happy! Candi and her daughter are looking forward to each having their own space. Getting ready in the mornings will be much easier!

“One of our biggest dreams is to have a place we can call our own, to create beautiful memories together. A safe and stress-free environment for my kids is my top priority. After facing the heartbreak of losing our rented place, the need to find a permanent home became dire. That’s when we heard about Habitat for Humanity and watched a family friend’s positive experience with them. We decided to apply, even though the process seemed overwhelming at first. But with the support of the amazing Habitat team, we’re moving forward with hope and excitement!” - Candida

Their ultimate dream is to go on a vacation outside of Canada someday! Until then, they are grateful for the opportunity to build a stable and loving home for their family.

Candi is halfway through completing her 500 volunteer hours. Despite her busy schedule, she devotes her evenings and weekends to volunteering at our ReStore and taking part in the construction of her and her neighbours’ Habitat homes. Pictured here are Shelby, Built Site Supervisor, and Candida, assembling kitchen cabinets. This task may be a challenge for some, but for Candi, it’s an opportunity to build more than just furniture — it’s a chance to build a stronger future for her children and herself.

Candida and her daughters moved into their Habitat home in September, 2023. They continue to work on their 500 volunteer hours.
