The Magpantay Family's Story
A new beginning, made possible by a Habitat home
For Christopher and Precious Magpantay, homeownership has always represented something bigger than simply having a place to live. It means stability. Security. Peace of mind. And, most importantly, a permanent place where their family can grow and make memories together.
The Magpantay family has been living in a safe and stable neighbourhood, but their housing situation became uncertain when their landlord decided to sell the property. At the same time, the rising cost of housing made saving enough for a down payment increasingly difficult.
They were working hard, carefully managing their finances and doing everything they could to build a future for their family. But homeownership still felt just out of reach.
Now, that is changing.
Christopher and Precious will soon become homeowners through Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North's Buy Back Program, a unique
part of Habitat's affordable homeownership model that gives previously owned Habitat homes a new chapter.
When a Habitat homeowner is ready to move on and pursue their next housing goal, Habitat can buy the home back, complete necessary renovations and offer it to another local family. In this way, a single Habitat home can continue creating opportunities for families in our community.
For the Magpantay family, that opportunity means a safe, stable and permanent place to call home.
A home to build a future
“We learned about Habitat through our friends who spoke positively about the program,” the family shared.
For Christopher and Precious, family time is often found in the simple things: sharing meals, going for walks and spending time outdoors whenever they can. Even with the stresses of everyday life, they make an effort to stay connected and support one another.
Their new Habitat home will give them the stability to do more of what matters most: building a life together.
“Having a stable and permanent home would provide security, peace of mind and a stronger future for our family,” they shared. “It will give us the stability of knowing we have a safe place to live long term.”
For their young son, Aeden, homeownership will mean growing up with a place where he can feel secure and proud of where he lives. For his parents, it means the opportunity to build equity, create long-term financial stability and experience the pride and independence that comes with homeownership.
The next chapter
After so much waiting and working towards this goal, the first moments in their new home will be simple but meaningful.
The family plans to pause and take it all in.
“We will likely walk through each room, not just to see the space but to start imagining the life we will build there.”
That feeling captures what home means to the Magpantay family: “a place where memories are made, the simple moments and the special milestones we share together.”
And now, thanks to a Habitat home that has already helped another family on their journey, Christopher, Precious and Aeden will have the opportunity to create those memories of their own.

Through the Buyback Program, Habitat homes can continue serving families in our community, creating a cycle of opportunity that grows with every family.
