Jocelyn's Story
Meet Jocelyn Whyte and her two lovely daughters, Riley and Stella.
Jocelyn is a lifelong Campbell River resident who cherishes the beauty and abundance of this community. For the past decade, she and her girls have been living in her childhood home, but with the property being sold this Spring, they were facing an uncertain future. That all changed when Jocelyn received the life-changing news of her Habitat home.
Jocelyn’s journey to Habitat began in an unexpected way. While attending a Coalition to End Homelessness meeting as a support worker, a colleague turned to her and said, “I think you’d be a great fit for Habitat.” That comment sparked a five-year journey. “To anyone thinking about starting their Habitat journey,” Jocelyn says, “know that it takes hard work, patience, and dedication—but it’s all absolutely worth it in the end.”
Throughout the process, Jocelyn embraced Habitat’s volunteer program. “Being on the build site was my favourite part. The hard work, the sweat, being physically exhausted—it actually felt amazing,” she laughs.
“There’s such a sense of accomplishment. Now, I’m one of those people who proudly say, ‘Look, I helped build those fences!’”
The Whyte family love outdoor adventures like camping, kayaking, swimming, and making the most of snowy winters with sledding and outdoor play. When at home, they enjoy cozy nights with board games and movies.
For Jocelyn, homeownership is more than just having a roof over their head. It symbolizes stability, security, and a foundation for her daughters’ future. With every mortgage payment, she is investing in their long-term well-being. She sees her new home as a sanctuary where her girls will always feel safe and loved.

When we asked what they’re most excited to do first in their new home, Jocelyn said she can’t wait to plant vegetables in the garden box, while the girls are eager to decorate their rooms!

Riley and Stella are eager to contribute to their Habitat journey. Riley, now old enough to volunteer, is excited to gain new skills at the ReStore, while both girls have already helped by creating thank-you cards for donors.
Jocelyn looks forward to joining the Habitat community, reconnecting with familiar faces, and building new friendships with her neighbours. She is grateful for the opportunity to turn her dream of homeownership into reality, proving that with determination and support, anything is possible.
Welcome home, Whyte family!
