Campbell River Team Wins the 'Big Cheese' at Annual Habitat BBQ Party

This year we brought back an old tradition, Habitat for Humanity's annual BBQ staff and volunteer party! During the pandemic, we had to halt all big events, and we are so happy to have brought this one back. Held at the picturesque Kitty Coleman Beach Provincial Park, the party was a perfect blend of fun, laughter, and friendly competition, bringing together staff and volunteers from both Comox Valley and Campbell River.

Despite a bit of wind adding a playful twist to our beachside gathering, everyone showed up with big smiles and an even bigger sense of community. Everyone enjoyed a delicious BBQ spearheaded by Dwayne Toews the General Manager at the Comox Valley ReStore. Later in the afternoon, we split into two teams for a spirited showdown: Community vs. Community. The friendly competition featured a variety of games that ranged from silly and physical to brain-teasing trivia, ensuring a lively and entertaining experience for everyone involved.

This year, we introduced something new to our tradition: the 'Big Cheese' award. This trophy was hotly contested, and we’re thrilled to announce that the Campbell River team won! Their performance not only earned them bragging rights but also secured their spot in Habitat Vancouver Island North history, as the first-ever recipient of this award. The 'Big Cheese' will now be proudly displayed at the Campbell River ReStore.

Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who attended from both communities. Your dedication and enthusiasm are what make our mission possible. Without your support, we wouldn’t be able to build more safe and affordable homes for families in our community. This BBQ was our way of expressing gratitude and celebrating the incredible work you all do, and we look forward to hosting one again next year.
