Habitat Benefits from Third Annual Campbell River-Opoly Event

The RE/MAX Check Realty team in Campbell River hosted the third annual Campbell River-Opoly event at the Riptide Marine Pub in February. The fundraiser was set up to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North (Habitat VIN) and Children’s Miracle Network. A total of $11,380 was raised in one night, with half going to Habitat for Humanity! The pub's owner, Roy Grant, generously donated the space so all the proceeds can be split between the two charities.

This industry event gathered Realtors from all local RE/MAX offices, Builders, Appraisers, Mortgage Brokers, Notaries, and trades. Six from our very own Habitat team also attended the event. Patrons shared a meal and a few laughs while playing a game that gives them the opportunity to give back to something that is an important part of industry and community.

"I support Habitat for Humanity because it embodies the spirit of community, compassion, and empowerment. By providing affordable housing solutions, Habitat for Humanity not only addresses the basic human need for shelter but also fosters sustainable communities and transforms lives. Through volunteerism and partnership, Habitat creates opportunities for families to build strength, stability, and self-reliance, ultimately contributing to a more just and equitable community." - Lisa Jarvie, realtor with RE/MAX Check Realty.

RE/MAX chose Habitat as their beneficiary because they understand the housing affordability crisis is real. While there are new projects that might be working towards a solution, affordable housing solutions have been Habitat’s mission for over 40 years, with Habitat VIN building 51 affordable homes on North Vancouver Island since its founding in 2004.

“The idea that people can apply to own a home, qualify for a Habitat Mortgage, and then some day after they build equity, they can sell their home back to Habitat and move on to own a home in a regular market, that definitely ticks a few of the boxes when you are looking for a solution for affordable home ownership. The idea that this is happening for real people in our communities just makes it better,” said Erika Haley, Managing Broker and Owner of RE/MAX Check Realty.

The support from businesses such as RE/MAX Check Realty and the Riptide Marine Pub is essential for Habitat VIN’s ability to continue building affordable homes in the community. At Habitat we are so grateful for their support, our organization could not build affordable homes without community partners such as this.
