Special Guest in Courtenay

Megan Rix from Flipped Side Furniture

On June 1st at 1 pm, you can follow along as Megan Rix from Flipped Side Furniture works on a project and shares her tips on best practices when upcycling furniture!

My favourite thing about refinishing furniture is that I get to have a creative outlet while helping to keep things out of landfills. - Megan

Megan enjoys visiting and looking for treasures and potential projects from thrift stores in the Comox Valley and often stops by the ReSTore. We asked her what her favourite finds are at our store.

"Tons of things! I shop there weekly! Lots of Walnut Mid Century Dressers."

We also asked her to share her favourite snack:

I'm a sweet girl, anything chocolate! The healthy route - charcuterie boards or a delicious salad (we're a vegetarian family!)

Meet Ken & Carol McRae

Ken & Carol McRae | Campbell River Customers

Nine Years ago, they retired to the North Island to start renovations on a neglected heritage estate in the Sayward Valley. Their goal was to bring the estate back to its former glory, incorporating guest suites for local and international travellers, who would enjoy the local and colourful décor. Campbell River ReStore has always been their first stop to obtain construction materials, tools, furnishings, household goods and many, many other treasures. When Ken & Carol downsized and sold the estate, many of the suites' furnishings were again donated back to ReStore. Along the way, Ken was instrumental in initiating the ongoing relationship between ReStore and Sayward Clean Up Days.

We asked them what their favourite thing about the ReStore is and they said,

Unexpectedly finding small treasures – a book or DVD, a kitchen gadget, or something similar. Virtually every visit we find something we need or, more importantly, something we just want.

We also asked them to share their favourite snack:

We enjoy late-evening popcorn or ice cream!

Meet Doug McAlpine

Doug McAlpine Long time customer and helper at the Campbell River ReStore.

Doug McAlpine is a long-time Campbell River customer and helper. He replaced the ReStore bathroom floor, laid out the kitchen floor, painted the back room floor, and has helped out on the builds also. He frequently will answer flooring questions for us or our customers if he is in the store. He is a floor layer by trade. His favourite thing about the ReStore is the prices and the people. His best ReStore finds are flooring, and ofcourse we also had to ask him what his favourite snack was, and he said grapes!

Thank you, Megan, Ken, Carol and Doug for your continuous support, we love hearing your stories. Habitat ReStore shirts look great on you! We look forward to seeing everyone at the stores.
