Habitat kicks off 12 homes on 1375 Piercy Avenue

On Thursday, August 19th we held a Groundbreaking Ceremony to kick off our upcoming 12-home project on 1375 Piercy Avenue. Thank you to everyone who joined us! Before the ceremony began, we enjoyed music by JUNO Award winner Helen Austin (who also volunteers at our Comox Valley ReStore!) and her daughter Daisy Melville. For refreshments, future homeowners shared food and snacks that were meaningful to their families. Chief Nicole Rempel of K’ómoks First Nation gave the traditional land acknowledgement, and both Mayor Bob Wells of the City of Courtenay and Rev. Ingrid Brown of St. George’s United Church and the Weird Church spoke at the event. Board Chair Bill Wright, Director of Construction Logan Rohovde, Director of Family Services Karen McKinnon, and future homeowner Jane spoke and thanked the volunteers, donors, sponsors, and supporters who make Habitat's work possible. One of the notable supporters of this project is Jim Wilks, whose generous bequest made it possible for us to purchase the land to build these homes. Construction is expected to begin this fall.

Did you miss the groundbreaking?
