Family Feud Game Night Raises Funds for Affordable Housing
The Habitat team decided to try something new in Courtenay and Campbell River, and it paid off. Our first-ever Family Feud fundraiser brought together locals for two nights of high energy, friendly competition, and plenty of laughs. If you couldn’t make it, don’t worry—we plan on hosting more family-friendly events in the Fall.
Together, we raised $3,390 for affordable housing. We also had a 50/50 raffle at each event. Diane P. won $171.50 in Campbell River, and Gail K. took home $250.50 in Courtenay. Congratulations to all our winners, and thank you for supporting a great cause!

Why Family Feud?
After years of hosting the Bid to Build Online Auction, we decided to shake things up. We’re always looking for fresh ways to connect with our community, and after hearing countless requests for more in-person events, we thought, Why not give it a go? We wanted something interactive, something that brought people together while raising money for the important work we do at Habitat for Humanity.
The Family Feud format was a no-brainer. It’s lively, it’s competitive, and it brings out the best in people. What better way to finish the summer than with a game that’s all about fun, community, and raising funds for affordable housing? The winning teams in both Courtenay and Campbell River walked away with a Zip Line Adventure Package tour for five, generously sponsored by Mt. Washington, but the real winners were our community members who came together to support a great cause.

How Did We Collect Our Survey Answers?
So, how did we gather those fun, quirky Family Feud survey answers? Throughout the summer, we attended various local events and had a blast engaging with the public. We set up booths at the Coastal Community Credit Union BBQ Customer Appreciation Event, Market Days in Courtenay, at Campbell River Live Street Event, and the Campbell River Farmers Market. Over 500 people took the time to participate in our surveys, and we also gathered responses through our social media channels. The result? A perfect blend of answers that made for an entertaining and unpredictable night.
“The Family Feud fundraiser was such a fun night. You could feel the energy in the room as teams battled it out. There were a ton of laughs, cheering, and some friendly rivalry. Jon Varus from the Raven radio was a great game show host—it was an unforgettable night, and knowing it was all for a great cause like Habitat for Humanity made it even better.” — Chrystal Arnet, Community Engagement and Events Manager
We want to thank everyone who made these nights so special. Our host Jon Varus, our volunteers in Campbell River, Jocelyn, Annie, and Carmen, and Edith and Diana in Courtenay, the participants, our sponsors, Ryan Williams Real Estate, Chances Casino and Match Eatery, Mt. Washington and of course, the community. Your support makes all the difference, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
Looking Ahead
As we look ahead to our Fall fundraising initiatives, we are more excited than ever about creating opportunities for the community to come together in fun and meaningful ways. We’ve proven that, with a little creativity, raising money for affordable housing can be both impactful and enjoyable. We can’t wait to see you at the next one!
