Best Non-Profit Entry in Comox Valley Christmas Parade

It was a crisp December afternoon for the Downtown Courtenay Comox Valley Christmas parade, but the holiday spirit was running high! After a gap year due to the pandemic, the parade was back on. It felt as if all of Comox Valley flooded the downtown Courtenay core. Silver bells and magic were in the air! There were 17 participants including us, that walked in the parade, as well as local mayors, the RCMP, and the Courtenay Fire Department. Thank you to everyone who helped build, paint, decorate, walk, ride or drive to help make our Christmas Parade entry AMAZING! These combined efforts helped us win $500 cash for Best Non-Profit Entry. (Thank you to Brian McLean Chevrolet for sponsoring this prize category!) Thanks to our sponsor, Angela Zumbo from The Mortgage Centre. Angela’s cash donation ensured our success! The money went towards float decorating and construction costs. We couldn’t do this without our volunteers! Thank you to Courtenay volunteers Tudor, Darryl, Ken, Bob, and BW who built the shed from scratch, and Campbell River volunteers Laurie, Rachel, Gavin, and Ashli for putting on the finishing touches and decorating! As well as Garrett who helped take down the decorations once the parade was over. What a job well done. We want to extend a special thanks to homeowners Angela and David, Courtenay, Jane, and their children, as well as volunteers Jon Toogood, Britt Bergin, Linda Cristie, Linda Greenwood, and Miranda Brooking who walked with us in the parade. Thank you to Habitat staff members Alla McQueen, Alison Liebel, and Stefan Odowichuk for coordinating the parade floats, and Yana Dimitrova and Alli Epp for reporting on the event. Thank you to Gail Burr and Logan Ronhovde for your continued support. We also want to thank Shawn Gurr, Kayla Tinga, and her husband Ryan for driving the Habitat truck and guiding the float in the Comox Valley parade.
We also want to thank Central Builders Courtenay, Signature West Floor & Window Fashions Inc., Sherwin-Williams, Jim Zsiros Contracting, and Industrial Plastics & Paints for donating materials, and CVEX for use of their tent. See more photos from the parade and our winning float here.
