Local Students Win Habitat Reel Contest Just in Time for the Holidays
The Habitat Student Reel Impact Contest has officially concluded, and we’re excited to announce the winners! Sponsored by First Credit Union, the contest celebrated local students' creativity and community spirit. We're thrilled to share that Kaitlyn Wilson has earned first place and a $300 prize, while Koah Hampton takes second place with a $200 prize—just in time for the holiday season!
First Place Winner: Kaitlyn Wilson
Congratulations to Kaitlyn Wilson, a Grade 9 student from Lake Trail School in Courtenay, on her exceptional work on the video project. The project captured the spirit of Habitat for Humanity and our community.
Kaitlyn went above and beyond by researching Habitat for Humanity and visiting our social enterprise, the ReStore, to create a video that highlights the contributions of ReStore volunteers and shoppers. In the video, she asks questions such as “Why do you volunteer with Habitat?” and “What inspires you to shop at the ReStore?” These personal stories give viewers an authentic look at the people who help make Habitat’s work possible.
Not only did Kaitlyn film and edit the video with great care, but she also added drone footage of our Courtenay location, offering an eagle-eye view of our store! Kaitlyn added French and English subtitles to ensure the video was inclusive, making it accessible to even more people in our diverse community.
Kaitlyn’s creativity and attention to detail are genuinely inspiring. Her video is a wonderful example of how young people can make a real impact while showcasing their talents and passion for community service.
Well done, Kaitlyn. Your hard work has made a lasting impression, and we are proud of your contribution to Habitat for Humanity! We would love to see more of your talent in the future.

Second Place Winner: Koah Hampton
Congratulations to Koah Hampton for earning second place in the Habitat for Humanity Student Reel Contest! Koah captured highlights from our most recent Key Ceremony in Courtenay in a 15-second reel. In this short but impactful video, Koah highlights the delicious food prepared by our volunteers, speeches, and the families and friends who make these events so special. The reel offers a teaser glimpse into what a Habitat Key Ceremony is about—a celebration of community, hope, and new beginnings. Great job, Koah!
